Wednesday 23 February, 1.00pm - 4.00pm (registration from 12.45pm)

Northern Film & Media invites you to the fourth instalment in our series of commissioning events designed to connect North East talent with the industry’s key decision makers.

In the age of the PVR, when viewers can easily skip thorugh adverts, traditional models of advertiser-funded television seem increasingly unsustainable. At the same time, Ofcom’s recent relaxation of rules about product placement on British television has opened the way for advertisers to place their message in programmes rather than around them. From simple product placement, to more complex sponsorships and even the creation of entire brand-focused programmes, a whole new world of opportunities and challenges is opening up for content creators.

Hear from two leading experts in the field about this new landscape, learn about how they’ve seized its opportunities and overcome its hurdles, and arm yourself with the tools to compete and succeed in the ever-evolving world of television.

The sessions are specifically designed to offer the inside-track on all aspects of commissioning, including content preferences, pitching and budget considerations. Covering all genres, attendees will gain new business contacts and develop relationships with some of the most influential commissioning decision makers.

Sally Quick is Head of Commercial Partnerships at UKTV, where she is responsible for advertiser-funded content across ten channels. Among her many successes are putting together deals with Red Bull for the annual freestlye motorcross Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour on Dave; a six figure deal with Young's Seafood to produce Mitch & Matt's Big Fish; the Toyota- funded Carpool with Robert Llewellyn for Dave; and with Amoy on Gary Rhodes' Rhodes Across China. Previously the Editor of Branded Content for ITV. Sally took up her post at UKTV in 2006.

Claire Heys has been a leading practitioner at the forefront of advertiser funded content deals over the last six years, creating TV content strategies for Nintendo, Camelot, Orange, J&J, Cow & Gate, General Mills, The British Army, Waitrose, Levi’s, Malibu and Motorola among others. Claire worked with WPP companies, MEC and GroupM to develop the innovative funding structure behind Five’s new prime time format, Britain’s Best Brain, negotiating funding from both Nintendo and GroupM Entertainment to ensure the series was brought fully financed to the broadcaster. Previously Controller of Commercial Partnerships at Virgin Media Television and UKTV, she has also been Head of Business Development for Initial, part of Endemol UK, where she initiated and developed one of the first mainstream deals on ITV, Orange Playlist, which ran for 3 series.
