Event Details

Just as nine-tenths of an iceberg is below the surface of the water, so nine-tenths of culture is out of conscious awareness. However, as the Bay Area continues to attract people from all cultures and backgrounds, the submerged aspects of culture can be as challenging to communication as navigating iceberg-filled waterways.

This workshop is designed to help each of us learn the cultural behaviors, perceptions and assumptions we bring to our work and how to use this awareness to communicate more effectively across cultures. In the course of the day we will share stories, engage in dynamic group learning and uncover our own personal and organizational cultural lenses. In addition, we will explore many critical concepts including cultural identity and power dynamics.

Presenter Patricia St.Onge (Haudenosaune) has worked to support the progressive social justice movement for much of her adult life.  She is the founder and a Partner in Seven Generations Consulting Company, providing coaching, training, consulting and technical assistance in the areas of community organizing, social change advocacy, organizational development, cross-cultural effectiveness, consensus building and executive, spiritual & personal coaching.  Seven Generations works with public agencies, non-profit organizations, foundations, academic institutions, congregations and communities.  They also provide executive transitions consulting as well as serving as interim executive director.

The name Seven Generations comes from Haudenosaune tradition that reminds us that we honor the generations who have come before us, and make decisions that are mindful of their impact on seven generations to come.
