La Gloria: Contemporary Art in the Cultural Zone

                        Dir. Brandon Olmos

                        46 min., USA, 2010, English

Set in the heart of San Antonio’s West Side, La Gloria is an ambitious professional development and economic stimulus strategy for artists and performers, which strives to foster the collecting of local and regionally produced fine art via an exposition environment and the discovery of contemporary performance artists via music, film, and literature.

As Long as I Remember: American Veteranos

Dir. Laura Varela

56 min., USA, 2010, English

As Long As I Remember: American Veteranos examines the personal toll and legacy of the Vietnam War on three South Texas artists: visual artist Juan Farias, author Michael Rodriguez, and poet/performance artist Eduardo Garza. The stories of these veterans and their families take us through a journey of their lives: growing up in the Mexican American community, their military service in Vietnam, and their lives after the war. Through their stories we examine the role art plays in the sorting of memories, post-traumatic stress disorder, activism, and the current conflict in Iraq. The film will fill your senses with images of South Texas during the Vietnam War and the Chicano Civil Rights Movement to their present day lives and the vibrant Chicano Art scene in San Antonio.
