2011 Annual Meeting Agenda:

 

3:00—4:00 pm   Walking tour of the San Francisco Art Institute. Meet at the Main Courtyard Fountain.

Founded in 1871, The San Francisco Art Institute is one of the oldest art schools in the United States.  Originally located on the site of the Mark Hopkins mansion, the school relocated in 1925 to a building designed by Bakewell & Brown.  The school building was expanded in 1969 with Paffard Keatinge-Clay’s refined Brutalist design that features a large auditorium, open areaways and an amphitheatre with and incredible view of San Francisco and the bay.  The school is home to one of the three murals painted by Diego Rivera in San Francisco.

Discussion and viewing of documentary film of the 1931 Diego Rivera mural – one of only three Rivera murals in San Francisco. 

 

                                                                                                                                                                                   

4:30—6:30 pm   “Staining Concrete and Historic Rehabilitation” by Shellie Rigsby & Dr. Tanya Komas

Ms. Rigsby is the author of “The Complete Guide to Stained Concrete” and a craftsperson specializing in creating concrete finishes.  Dr. Komas is the Director of the Concrete Industry Management Program at Chico State.  Most recently, both women been retained by the National Park Service to work on the restoration of the concrete elements of Alcatraz.  The presentation will include a lecture on the restoration of this and other projects as well as hands-on demonstrations of concrete staining techniques.
