Summary:  The treasurer is responsible for the safeguarding of cash, the most liquid and therefore most risky of corporate assets.  In a complex enterprise, cash is exposed in diverse ways to fraud or error -- electronic banking systems that facilitate the immediate release of unlimited sums, operating subsidiaries in worldwide locations that manage their own cash and banking, currency risks for which the economic and accounting risks are difficult to coordinate, and investment decisions that present the temptation to sacrifice security for return.  This session highlights the typical challenges and control threats that an internal audit of the treasury function should investigate. 

Presenter:  Dale Sorenson is a nationally recognized advisor to corporate treasurers on the complete spectrum of opportunities and threats, including financial controls, global treasury management, investment operations, payment processing and organizational design.  Sorenson was a product and marketing executive for treasury management services at JPMorgan Chase for 20 years before becoming an advisor to corporate treasurers and financial institutions on optimal treasury practices.  Sorenson recently left PricewaterhouseCoopers to become an executive in Crowe Chizek's risk consulting practice.  He made the presentation on “Control Challenges for the Contemporary Treasurer” to the Columbus, Ohio chapter of IIA in March 2008.
