What

20 years of ballot stuffing through gerrymandering has resulted in the most corrupt legislature and governor in a generation. The majority in the legislature is so powerful that it will take new levels of cooperation among progressive elected officials, media, issue groups, academics, faith groups, and more to minimize further damage to our great state. Proven progressive leaders are coming together to present project briefs related to this legislative session, to take responsibility for tasks, and to commit to deadlines.

  • Participants - have the capacity to work on projects and to build coalitions
  • Presenters - come to inspire commitment to legislative engagement projects and to coalition build
  • Sponsors - are leveraging their resources and network to draw presenters and participants

Why

If effective Florida progressive leaders personally invite others ready to work issues before this legislative session, we can bring together an extraordinary talent pool that can then cross pollinate, expand coalitions, and strengthen the movement as only personal interaction can.

  • Participants - Can be more impactful this legislative session if they commit to working projects with other proven leaders who share their interests
  • Presenters - Come to inspire commitment to a legislative engagement project
  • Sponsors - are nurturing a talent pool for the movement and building their brand among effective leaders from various interest groups

Background

The Florida Roots Camp was a great 2010 Election debrief and participants clamored for another.

The Florida Legislative session is upon us, so a LegiCamp seems in order.

What's great about the un-conference idea is that we assume that the people in the movement know what needs to be discussed and that the job of the conference planners to provide a forum for this. For more on the history of "unconferences" visit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FooCamp
