The Move to Mobile

By 2013, mobile phones will overtake PCs as the most common Web access device worldwide. What does this mean to you and is your business ready

About The Event

According to a report by Gartner, the total number of PCs in use will reach 1.78 billion units in 2013. By 2013, the combined installed base of smartphones and browser-equipped enhanced phones will exceed 1.82 billion units and will be greater than the installed base for PCs thereafter.

Just consider how many people you know have purchased an iPhone, Blackberry or other smart phone in the past 12 months, and how many more are likely to get one in 2011.

For our first Web Wednesday of 2011 we are excited to launch yet another fascinating panel discussion on:

  • mobile phones which can access the internet
  • the state of connectivity on the Coast
  • how to make your website mobile compliant.

As a mobile user you're probably well aware mobile internet browsers are typically prepared to make fewer clicks on a website than users accessing sites from a PC and have little patience for sites that just don't work.

Although a growing number of websites and web-based applications offer support for small-form-factor mobile devices, many still do not. Websites not optimised for the smaller-screen formats will become a market barrier for their owners — much content and many sites will need to be reformatted/rebuilt.

So if you haven't already made the switch do you reall need a smart phone (a phone that can access the internet)?

  • How do you know if your website is mobile-compatible?
  • What do you do if it's not?
  • What are the costs of making it compatible?
  • Why is mobile coverage on the Sunshine Coast patchy and what is being done about it?
  • Will the National Broadband Network make any difference and which areas will benefit?

Come along to the first Web Wednesday for 2011 at the Sunshine Coast TAFE, and hear from yet another incredible panel line up.

Numbers ARE limited. Secure your ticket now!
