Legal Aspects of Electronic Communication

Electronically stored information is more than just e-mail and document files. Electronic information also includes images, voice-mails, flash memory sticks, cell phones, PDA’s and BlackBerry devices. Businesses increasingly rely on these types of electronic devices to communicate effectively and efficiently. This increased dependence on e-communication, along with a growing body of state and federal statues governing privacy and storage has created additional risks which businesses need to manage. This workshop will focus on the legal aspects of electronic communication including:

Margery Newman, JD
Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart, P.C.

Margery Newman is an attorney concentrating in the practice of construction law including complex construction litigation in both the private and public sectors. She places a particular emphasis on client counseling with regard to the drafting and negotiation of construction contracts, mechanics’ lien claims and foreclosure actions, construction defects and DBE certification and compliance.

Margery was admitted to practice in 1983 after completing her J.D. with High Distinction at the John Marshall Law School. She has authored numerous publications including the “Construction Business Formbook”; Aspen Publishing and “Liens & Other Security Interests Money, Money, Money – Who Gets the Money?”. Margery is a member of the Society of Illinois Construction Attorneys, Socio-Economic Committee of the Public Contract Law Section of the American Bar Association and the National Association of Women in Construction to name a few. She is also an adjunct professor at the John Marshall Law School.
