Lean
started in the manufacturing community and has branched out into all
types of businesses. Structus Building Technologies started implementing
Lean in 2004 and their waste has been reduced to 20% of what it
originally was and productivity has doubled. This all occurred as their
sales and profits grew significantly.
- Lean requires involvement from the top person in the company, not just authorization.
- There
should be clear communication on why you are doing Lean and how it is
tied to business results. There should also be clarity on where you are
heading.
- Use visual charts or indicators showing how things are progressing.
- Use a system to continually focus on improvements
