ABOUT THE SPRAYING
• The California Department of Food and Agriculture ( CDFA ) has announced that it will begin spraying in mid-August in the Greater Bay Area and at least 12 counties throughout the state for the Light Brown Apple Moth ( LBAM )
• CDFA intends to spray multiple times per year for up to 10 years.
• The untested chemical cocktail known as Checkmate is composed of 11 different synthetic chemicals, some of which are known carcinogens and endocrine disruptors.
• After a similar LBAM spray in Monterey and Santa Cruz this past September and November over 640 people were documented with respiratory, skin, digestive and otherhealth disorders directly connected to the spray, No one knows anything about long term effects.
• CDFA agrees that there has been no crop damage to date
• Many University of California scientists agree that spraying is unnecessary and will not eradicate the moth. Entomologists beleive that the moth has been here for decadesand is not a threat, kept under control by natural predators.
Proceeds from the concert will benefit the education and outreach activities of Stop the Spray Marin, working to stop aerial pesticide spraying in all of California. With your support we can make our communities safe and healthy places to live.
