Did you arrive at the 1st day of summer full of hope for the year ahead - knowing you will finally get your weight under control, knowing you will feel much better about yourself, knowing you will have the energy to do all you want to do - and then after a few weeks decided it's too hard, you didn't have time, or you were bored with it all?

I can probably best explain to you why I have decided to run a special 6-week mini-coaching program by sharing with you a defining moment in my life.

I arrived at my new home in Hawaii weighing more than I had ever weighed in my life. This came as a major shock to me because I had always thought of myself as a fit, healthy person. Here I was, finally living where I wanted to be, needing to earn a living so I could afford to live in my island paradise, and I couldn't even go out to look for work because I couldn't fit into my clothes! Plus I was uncomfortable and embarrassed about how I looked.

I was a trained health and physical education teacher and a gymnastics coach. I had moved from Colorado where I worked with young, aspiring gymnasts including one whom we were training for the Olympics (She made the team). I KNEW BETTER!!! But I let it happen anyway.

WHY?

Looking back - it was simply because I didn't pay attention to the little things that made the difference. Although I was very knowledgeable about nutrition and exercise, I left my mindset behind when I moved towards my new life. I was well equipped with skills and information. But my attitude was way out in left field.

WHAT DID I LEARN?

That the most important thing I could do about my weight wasn't looking for the diet that would help me lose weight the fastest (it certainly hadn't helped anyone else I knew) - it was taking a good hard look at what I had done/hadn't done to put the extra pounds on my body, setting a realistic plan that would take them back off and keep them off permanently, and setting a structure and environment in which I could experience long-term success.

WHY DID IT WORK FOR ME?

First, my degree is in health and physical education. I have spent a lot of time studying nutrition and exercise including anatomy and physiology (or how the body really works), as well as motivation around those topics.

Second, I wanted to fit into my interview clothes. But I had a goal beyond that of what I wanted to look like, feel like and be like. This goal had become strong enough that I was destined to succeed.

Finally, I structured my environment to insure I would be successful in losing those extra pounds and in keeping them off. The right environment can make it easier and I believe it is critical to achieving goals and maintaining them.

That was 30 years ago and I am still at my goal weight.

As a result of those experiences, I decided to dedicate the rest of my professional life to helping others avoid the same mistakes. I became a licensed wellness coach and have since developed a weight management program that:

* helps you readjust your mindset towards weight loss
* helps you understand the value and appreciate a lifestyle wherein you can achieve your weight and health goals
* helps you feel that weight loss is achievable without dieting and uncomfortable exercising
* utilizes a support system to help you start structuring the environment that will "pull"you towards your goals
* was recognized as valuable by a clinical psychologist who has licensed my materials to use with her clients in the UK

* A true desire to achieve your own ideal weight and a willingness to do what it takes - no unsure, insecure or otherwise wishy-washy participants please do some soul searching and come back next year;

* Family Support - don't join this program if your family is not willing to support your environmental changes. There are NO environmental changes that will be adverse to their health or well-being;

* A willingness to open up, hang your laundry out there, and keep everyone else's laundry confidential - if want to keep your secrets to yourself, are unwilling to admit your foibles, and/or can't keep a secret about someone else - DON'T JOIN;

* The ability to bounce back from temporary setbacks - if you think you have to be perfect, and any setback means you failed and may as well quit - don't join;

* A controlled level of self-esteem - if you understand that it's ok to have good and bad days and still be proud of yourself - then welcome!

* An open mind - if you think that weight loss can only be achieved "the skimp on your food" and "exercise like crazy" way, and you are not prepared to try something different - don't join;

* A sense of humor and compassion - Humor about yourself, Compassion for other participants. This will keep you going and help you achieve your success;

* Internet enabled - this program will be delivered using teleconference systems (long distance phone rates may apply, there are NO additional phone fees) and access to email and the web will be important for you to receive maximum benefit.
