Writing for the Web Workshop

Do you write or edit content for your organisation’s website (intranet, Internet) or social media channels (blog, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and so on)? We’ll show you how to design and write content that works well for an online audience.

A user experience approach

Our training focuses on improving your users’ experience of your content. Our key themes are:

  • Useful—producing content that meets the needs of users
  • Usable—writing and designing content that works well for online reading
  • Accessible—making content usable for people with disabilities.

How we teach writing for the web

The workshop is divided into short modules ranging from 30 to 60 minutes.

The introductory sessions involve small and then larger group discussions. For the main modules, we give a short (15 mins) presentation on the topic, then review by discussing real-world examples. You’ll do an exercise to apply the techniques we’ve presented, and we’ll discuss the exercise.

We encourage you to bring some examples of your own content to review along with the exercise materials that we’ll provide.

You’ll have the chance to ask questions and offer suggestions during the workshop.

Workshop facilitator

Dey Alexander is a web content specialist. She has facilitated hundreds of usability tests and witnessed the problems that poor content creates. She will share her experiences and research findings to give you a good sense of what does and does not work well online.

Workshop notes and resources

You’ll get a set of notes (100+ pages) and we provide a range of online resources to help you apply what you learned after the workshop.

Cost

$620 (incl GST) per person, includes lunch. 10% discount for early or group registrations.
