The Democratic National Convention is coming to town. The eyes of the world will be on Denver August 25-27, 2008. Early estimates indicate that 175,000 guests will fill the hotels, restaurants and venues surrounding Pepsi Center in downtown Denver! Will they all leave spiritually the same?
Churches of Denver began praying about our response to this event in September 2007. God began simultaneously revealing to two churches that Southern Baptists could have a greater spiritual impact if we focused ministry activities on those who would still be here when all the political dust settled. We began exploring how we could provide a ministry to those who will serve Denver. It was decided that the best way to serve is to provide rest and food for all of the first responders.
The Mile High Baptist Association needs one thousand (1,000) volunteers to make this happen! During the week of August 23-29, Denver and Colorado Southern Baptists will join hands to make this happen for the first responders who are assigned responsibilities connected to the Democratic National Convention. If you can, please volunteer from one to seven days. Our commitment to the City of Denver extends around the clock through the all seven days.
We expect to serve more than 20,000 meals and provide courtesy sites for first responders. We wish to become a powerful prayer and ministry presence. The North American Mission Board, Colorado Baptist General Convention and Mile High Baptist Association are all collaborating with Denver churches to make a difference.
Training and orientation are required of all participants. Training events are open for registration on one of the dates below:
1. July 27th, 4:00 - 7:30 p.m., Arapahoe Road Baptist Church, 780 E. Arapahoe Rd, Centennial
2. Aug 17th, 3:00 - 6:00 p.m., Applewood Baptist Church, 11200 W. 32nd Ave, Wheat Ridge
3. August 24th, 2:00 - 6:00 p.m., Mississippi Ave Baptist, 13231 E Mississippi Ave, Aurora
This event is large and complex. We need volunteers for food preparation, food service, chaplaincy, evangelism, prayer walking, food and water delivery and general duties similar to Disaster Relief events. We need you!
