Thursday, May 01, 2008 at 9:00 AM - Saturday, June 07, 2008 at 4:00 PM (PT)
We've divided the course into 1- and 2-day sessions - you can register for 1 or all the sessions. The core sessions will be taught by Charles Burnett and the advanced sessions by Andrew Fall. Each of the sessions will be hosted by the Geography Department of the University of Victoria Campus, and taught in the new Spatial Sciences Teaching Lab. The SELES Symposium is free and open to all, and will be held in a UVic auditorium. For more information, please contact Charles at info@seles.info.
Detailed information by session:
Monday 26th: SELES Introduction - Understanding SELES Modelling
We will explore the following: What is landscape modelling? What is SELES? What does a basic SELES model look like? How do you run a SELES model? What questions can be explored with SELES? What SELES resources are available? (Hint: www.seles.info!)
Tuesday 27th (AM/PM) & Wednesday 28th (AM): SELES Core - Building Simple SELES Models, Preparing data for SELES, working with SELES output
We look in more depth into the building of simple SELES models. We focus on different types of spreading models, and of generating statistics about landscape pattern. Many SELES users only need to know how to prepare model inputs and then interpret results. The Wednesday morning session is for them.
Wednesday 28th (PM): SELES Symposium - Keynote, Discussion & Community Building (FREE)
The Symposium will start with a keynote by Andrew Fall, followed by a mini-conference were people using SELES will show off their work. We will also discuss strengtheing the SELES community through SELES.info, future symposia and support contracts.
Thursday 29th & Friday 30th: SELES Advanced - Building Advanced SELES Models
Andrew will lead an exploration of advanced SELES programming. Topics will include recent additions to the SELES simulator, SELES batch variables, and good SELES coding practices.
Organized by MapsWest GIS Consulting and Gowlland Technologies.
