Join us for our January 15, 2011 tour of Inman Park/Old 4th Ward!

Inman Park/Old 4th Ward

Inman Park Village is in fact the name of a private development on the edge of Historic Inman Park, but it seems a fitting nom de plume for this thriving strip of residences, businesses and greenspace that runs from the Studioplex complex to Freedom Park. Inman Park was the first planned suburb in Atlanta, a garden community with curvilinear streets and an electric trolley to take homeowners to downtown Atlanta. Before that it was the site of the Civil war Battle of Atlanta. Before that, it was home to Cherokee and Creek Indians. The Old Fourth Ward, on the other hand, is known as the birthplace of the Civil Right movement and the home of home of Martin Luther King, Jr. This area is also on the new Beltline Project and the proposed Historic Fourth Ward Park. In the midst of all this history is a vibrant culinary scene as well.

This is a walking tour lasting approximately 3 hours and will include about 2 miles of casual walking (mostly on sidewalks and paved surfaces). We'll visit five to seven unique eateries that really showcase the neighborhood and we'll fill you in on some of the history that makes Inman Park such an important part of Atlanta.

This is your opportunity to experience the community while sampling from some of Atlanta’s finest restaurants and markets. We will take only 14 on each tour, so don’t delay if you want to be part of this fun event. Eat your way across Inman Park!

How large are the tour groups?

The number of people will vary depending on the tour, but most groups will be limited to no more than 14. This makes the tour more manageable for both the guides and the restaurants. If you'd like to schedule a tour for a larger group, please contact us at info@atlantaculinarytours for more information.

What should I wear?

Most of our tours are walking tours, so it's important to wear comfortable (but tasteful) clothing and walking shoes. It's not a good idea to wear high heels or dress shoes. It is a good idea to check the weather on the day of your tour and dress appropriately - we'll try to conduct our tours hot, cold, rain or shine. If weather conditions are dangerous (this is Atlanta and we occasionally get some scary weather), we may have to cancel or reschedule - we'll contact you directly if this occurs. Don't forget sunglasses, sunscreen, hats or umbrellas depending on the weather.

Can I bring my camera?

Sure! There are lots of opportunities to take pictures during the tours.

Can I bring my dog?

Sorry, no. We're going to be visiting restaurants, and pet's aren't allowed.

Can I bring my kids?

You'll have to make that call, based on your childs age/maturity/etc. Most of our tours are not set up for children. The samplings at some of the restaurants may feature alcohol or may not suit the palate of children that are "particular". If you'd like to discuss a custom tour that is targeted to kids, please contact us at info@atlantaculinarytours.com

How much food will we be eating?

There are enough tastings that most people will not need a meal afterwards. However, if you're still hungry once the tour is over, feel free to go back to your favorite stop for more!

Will I need to bring cash?

Our tours are all inclusive, but it's a good idea to have some extra cash on hand for souvenirs, gifts, etc.

When should I arrive for the tour?

It is very important that you arrive at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start time. We leave on time - if you're running late, your confirmation will have a contact number that you can call.

Should I tip my tour guide?

In the tourism industry, it is customary to tip your guide as you would a waitperson. For Private Tours, a gratuity will be added to your total cost.

I need to cancel/reschedule. Is that a problem?

Not if you do it more than 24 hours in advance. We have to let all of the establishments we'll be visiting know how many people we're bringing so they can accommodate the tour. If you can't make it, you're welcome to give your reservation to someone else - just let us know at info@atlantaculinarytours.com!
