A beloved UCLA Anderson Adjunct Professor and director of the innovative FEMBA Global Access Program (GAP) since 2003, Foster has brought his industry experience to the classroom for such courses as Business Plan Development and High Technology Management, which he has taught continuously for 16 years to over 1,600 students. Foster taught half-time at UCLA Anderson for 16 years while working as a full-time executive – he was president and CEO of four high-technology firms, before making the transition to a full-time UCLA Anderson faculty member in 1999. Under his direction, GAP has blossomed to a nationally acclaimed and globally recognized capstone experience. GAP provided 2,000 Anderson students the opportunity to work closely with executives of 400 technology based companies from 17 countries to develop their strategic business plans. Simon Patterson ('84)
Simon is founder of Patterson Associates LLP – one of the leading independent remuneration consultancies in Europe. Previously, he was a Worldwide Partner with Marsh & Maclennan Corp. (MMC), based in London, where he led the executive compensation service line of Mercer's Performance, Measurement and Rewards practice. He is actively engaged as advisor to the Remuneration Committee of several FTSE100 companies, and consults widely on the topic of executive compensation and performance measurement.
After he graduated from UCLA’s Graduate School of Management (‘GSM’) in 1984, Simon worked for Booz Allen & Hamilton in their San Francisco and London offices – in the healthcare, energy and financial services practice areas. In London, he held senior positions in the European Corporate Finance and Financial Services consulting practice of Price Waterhouse, and then co-founded the European operations of a firm called Strategic Compensation Associates (‘SCA Consulting’) - in 1994. He led SCA Consulting's European practice until the whole partnership was acquired by Marsh & Maclennan in 2001.
Simon is key advisor to the Boards of a number of organisations, where he provides independent advice on Corporate Governance and Shareholder Value performance. As part of that effort, he remains in close contact with key investor groups, editors of the leading business media, and the Government.
