Intelligence technology and the espionage threat to Canadian Business

 

Dave Travers Biography

Dave enrolled as a Private in the Canadian Forces on 10 December 1980 at
Canadian Forces Recruiting Center in Kitchener, Ontario. As an Artillery Gunner he
was posted to CFB Shilo (Manitoba), CFB Lahr (West Germany) and then to CFB
Chatham (New Brunswick) where he was promoted to Warrant Officer. In 1993, after
being accepted in the University Training Plan for Non-Commissioned Members, he
commissioned as an Intelligence Officer. Prior to taking on duties in the Intelligence
trade, he was posted to Waterloo, Ontario where he attended the University of Waterloo
and completed a BA in Political Science in 1996. As an Intelligence Officer, he was
posted to Garrison Edmonton as the G2 1 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group, CFB
Kingston as an instructor at the Canadian Forces School of Military Intelligence and upon
promotion to Major he was posted to the Directorate Army Training. His deployments
include Cyprus (1982) as a Gunner with 3rd Regiment Royal Canadian Horse Artillery,
Macedonia(1999) as SO3 G2 4(UK) Armoured Brigade, Kosovo(1999) as a War
Crimes investigator, Haiti(2004) as Deputy J2 Combined Joint Task Force Haiti, and
Afghanistan(2004/2005) as Commanding Officer All Source Intelligence Center.
Dave retired from the Canadian Forces in August 2005 and is currently employed with
Directorate Land Synthetic Environment as an Intelligence Specialist. His training tasks
include High Readiness training for deploying Intelligence units and he was responsible
for providing training support to the Vancouver 2010 Olympics and to the G8/G20
Summits.
