John Thorp presents:

Unlocking Value – Delivering on the Promise of Information Technology Most organizations continue to fall far short of realising the potential value of their investments in information technology (IT). The underlying cause of this problem is that we continue to focus on the technology when we should instead be focusing on the changes that IT both enables and requires. The challenge that faces project managers is to ensure the host organizations have the necessary and effective governance mechanisms in place to ensure that investments in IT-enabled business change deliver optimal benefits, at an affordable cost, with an acceptable level of risk.  IT Governance has leapt from obscurity to prominence over the last few years - but is it enough? The speaker will propose that we need to move beyond IT governance to enterprise governance of IT-enabled change. He will introduce the Val IT™ framework from the IT Governance Institute (ITGI), and look ahead to how it might evolve in the future. John Thorp is an internationally sought-after management consultant with close to 45 years’ experience in the information management field. Author of “The Information Paradox”, John’s focus is on helping organizations realize the benefits of IT-enabled change.  Over the last ten years, John’s work has extended beyond IT to the broader issues of Enterprise Value Management, and Strategic Governance. He is currently working with the IT Governance Institute (ITGI) to research, develop and promote Val IT, an open framework containing best practices for optimising the value of IT-enabled change which complements ITGI’s existing COBITframework.
