SDFS Student Assistance Programming Overview AND Technical Assistance Workshop - April 21 and 22, 2008

The Virginia Department of Education will hold a technical assistance workshop Monday and Tuesday, April 21-22, 2008, in Richmond, Virginia. The workshop is designed for Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act (SDFSCA) coordinators. The afternoon of Monday, April 21 will be devoted to networking and an overview of student assistance programming. The following day (Tuesday, April 22) will provide an opportunity to hear about substance abuse issues, learn about new resources for program management and network with colleagues. 

• SDFSCA legislative updates, program and fiscal management tips
• Information for writing a successful SDFSCA application as a guide for program management
• Information and resources on prescription drug abuse and inhalant abuse
• Peer round table sessions for sharing information on initiatives supported with SDFSCA funding

The workshop will be held at the Sheraton Park South Hotel, 9901 Midlothian Turnpike, Richmond, Virginia, 23235. On April 21, Registration will begin at 1:00 pm for the overview of student assistance programming. On April 22, registration will begin at 8:00 a.m. for the technical assistance workshop. The workshop will begin at 8:30 a.m. and conclude by 3:15 p.m. Lunch and break refreshments will be provided. A block of rooms are reserved at government rates for your convenience. SDFSCA funds may be used for this technical assistance workshop in accordance with current state travel regulations.
