Seeing things : third in the 2011 series @Chapter

Expert illustrated talks followed by audience discussion

New Endings

In the first two talks the built environment of Cardiff was explored through it’s public art - historic and contemporary. In this talk and debate Kevin Hong, co-director of Cardiff based architecture and urban design office, Collaborative Design Studio, explores the way in which existing spaces can be transformed to make different contributions to the urban scene, including the way they look and the way we look at them. He is leading a project in Grangetown - New Endings - which is mapping 'dead-end' street spaces and exploring with the community ways of re-using 'those small and forgotten spaces which we inhabit every day.'

New Endings is a project funded by the Arts Council of Wales and the RSA – Catalyst Fund project and involves many contributors including Wiard Sterk of Urban Condition and John Fellows of the Grangetown Phoenix Group.

Collaborative Design Studio is a contemporary architecture and urban design practice whose ambition is to develop places and pleasures for people to live, work and play. Educated in Chicago and London, Kevin Hong has worked professionally in both the US and UK and is an external tutor at the Welsh School of Architecture, Cardiff University.
