Workshop Description: Join us for a dynamic day of learning about all aspects of young children’s
communication. We will cover brain development, the developmental stages of speech, language and
hearing, what to do when concerns arise and strategies for effective interventions.
This interactive session will use discussion, videos, handouts, and a multitude of activities along with a
good dose of laughter. You will leave the session with a deeper understanding of the human
communication system and with knowledge of best practices in early intervention. By the end of the day
you will have new and effective skills to encourage children’s speech, language and hearing.

  • Participants will increase their knowledge of early brain development and its impact on speech
    and language.
  • Participants will increase their knowledge of typical and atypical communication development
    in very young children.
  • Participants will learn about the impact hearing has on speech and language development.
  • Participants will be aware of Red Flags for possible communication and hearing delays and
    the referral process for evaluation.
  • Participants will learn strategies for developmentally appropriate communication interventions.
