Brigitte Griswold has worked to create The Nature Conservancy’s first national urban youth initiative, The Leaders in Environmental Action for the Future (LEAF) Program since 2003. In addition to her work as National LEAF Program Director, Brigitte has also served on the Diversity Council of the Land Trust Alliance and The North American Association for Environmental Education. Brigitte is a 2009 Fellow of Green for All, a national organization dedicated to building an inclusive green economy, and a 2010 Fellow of the Center for Whole Communities, which promotes community access and relationships to nature. She led the Education Advisory Panel of The National Forum on Children & Nature and is a Regional Leader of the Children and Nature Network. DJ Spooky, electronic and experimental hip hop musician, is Professor of Music Mediated Art at the European Graduate School and Executive Editor, Origin Magazine. As part of The Met Reframed, Paul D. Miller, a.k.a., DJ Spooky That Subliminal Kid, is Artist in Residence at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. In light of climate change, DJ Spooky has put together his own multimedia, multidisciplinary study of Antarctica. Miller uses Antarctica as a point of entry for contemplating humanity’s relationship with the natural world. His The Book of Ice, written with two additional contributors, Columbia University's Brian Greene, author of The Elegant Universe, and Ross A. Virginia, Director of Arctic Studies at Dartmouth College, is part fictional manifesto, part history and part science book. DJ Spooky's remixes of music range from WuTang Clan, Metallica, and Bob Marley to classical/new music legends Steve Reich and the Kronos Quartet. His work as a media artist has been featured at the Whitney Biennial, Venice Biennial, and Miami/Art Basel; and his first collection of essays, Rhythm Science, was released by MIT Press in 2004, followed by Sound Unbound, an anthology of writings on electronic music and digital media (MIT Press, 2008). Dolan Sondhi, Ph.D., is an Associate Research Professor at Weill Medical College of Cornell University. Her research interests include the clinical development of gene therapy for childhood neurodegenerative diseases. Growing up in New Delhi, India and, after earning an undergraduate honors degree from St. Stephens College, Dolan moved to the United States to pursue a Ph.D. in Chemistry at Brown University in Providence, RI. After Brown, she completed a two year post-doctoral fellowship in biomedical research at Rockefeller University before being appointed as the first faculty member in Cornell’s Department of Genetic Medicine. In her thirteen years at Cornell, Dr. Sondhi’s research in gene therapy has ranged from the development of a basic research program to clinical trials with patients. Her work has been published in numerous peer reviewed journals and she has had the honor of presenting at many national and international scientific meetings. In 2011 Canavan Research Summit Synopsis, Dr. Sondhi presented results from the Cornell gene therapy study of late infantile neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis.
Dr. Sondhi now lives in New York City with her husband and ten year old daughter.
Steve Miller has presented 35 solo exhibitions at major institutions in the United States China, France, and Germany over the past 31 years. His exhibitions have been reviewed in Le Monde, Süddeutsche Zeitung, The New York Times, The Boston Globe, ArtForum, ARTnews, Art in America and Isto E. Miller was one of the first artists to experiment with computers in the early 1980’s, and his work today continues to integrate science, technology and fashion with fine art. Using the lens of technology Miller reinvents at the traditional painted portrait, the world of fashion, particle physics, molecular biology and the world environmental crisis. In 2007 Miller exhibited a collaborative project on the subject of human protein with the 2003 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry, Rod MacKinnon, in a solo show at the Rose Art Museum at Brandeis University. In 2013 this project will be a solo exhibition at the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, DC curated by Marvin Heiferman. His current project, entitled "Health of the Planet," is about the rainforest in Brazil. The forests of the Amazon are the lungs of our planet in that they process the oxygen/ CO2 exchange essential for a healthy global environment. This project gives Brazil a medical check-up with an examination of our global lungs by taking x-rays of the plants and animals of the Amazon.
About the Performers
YAMATAI is a student group at Cornell University dedicated to spreading the art and joy of Taiko. Their current repertoire consists of pieces written by Bonten, a professional Taiko group in Japan, traditional community Taiko pieces, as well as original compositions by Yamatai members and alumni. Through rigorous study and training, Yamatai seeks to explore musical possibilities of Taiko drumming in contemporary adaptations while respecting the origins of the traditional art.
