Zen Around the City
Wednesday, September 4, 2013 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM (EDT)
There’s no doubt that living in a city is fun, exciting and stimulating. But we all know (maybe some of us too well) that city life can also be stressful, draining and sometimes even monotonous (wake up, eat, work, eat, sleep, repeat). But it doesn’t have to be…incorporating active transportation into your lifestyle can make a world of a difference. The physical health benefits of biking are obvious, but did you know that much like yoga, biking can also reduce stress? Even the Founder of Specialized bikes recognized this when he said “There’s a Zen-like meditation to the rotation of the pedals, almost like a Buddhist chant.” So it’s no wonder biking and yoga go hand in hand.
We know, we know, it’s not always that easy. “Biking in traffic is scary, there’s too much gear involved, I don’t have time” – we’ve heard it all. But people still do it, and they’re statistically healthier and happier than those who don’t. That’s exactly why we’ve put this “biking and yoga mixer” together – to help you improve your quality of life. So if you're a beginner and are interested in biking to work, to the store or for whatever reason, this is the event for you!! And because bikes and yoga go together like peanut butter and jelly we’ve teamed up with the Crystal City BID, Vornado/Charles E. Smith and Mind Your Body Oasis to host the event at "The Landing" right outside the yoga studio.
We’ll be starting the night off with 30 minutes of light yoga lead by the Mind Your Body Oasis staff (this is optional - if you do participate wear something comfortable, but we won't break a sweat so exercise clothes aren't necessary, jeans and a t-shirt are fine), mats will be available at no extra cost. Dinner will be provided by Post Modern Foods, and drinks by Honest Tea. There will be several experts on hand (including a Kaiser health professional) to discuss how you can make biking work for you and your unique needs. And we’ll send you home with a goodie bag to help you get started! So come join us for a fun and life changing event about biking and soon you too will find your “zen” around the city.
What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
The event is located in the Crystal City Shops. You can access the shops by the Crystal City metro station. There are also 4 Capital Bikeshare stations, all within a 5 minute walk. The shops are also accessible by bike - there are bike lanes on Crystal Drive and the Mount Vernon Trail spits you out at the Water Park across the street from the entrance to the shops. There is free car parking after 4:30pm on Crystal Drive and 20th St.
Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
Yes, please either bring your ticket (on a mobile device is fine) or your ID that matches the name on the ticket.
Do you accept walk ups?
No you must purchase your ticket before the event.
What is the refund policy?
We will not be able to refund your ticket if you do not show up. Please cancel your RSVP if you cannot make the event at least 24 hours before the event. This will allow others to register and you will be refunded if you cancel before the event.
The name on the registration/ticket doesn't match the attendee. Is that okay?
This is ok if you bring your ticket with you. If you don't have your ticket, the name you registered with must match your ID.
