 All of the groups and workshops are open to both Residents and Non Residents. Warren Township Residents are welcome to apply for Needs-Based Scholarships if unable to afford the service.

7 HABITS OF HIGHLY EFFECTIVE TEENS— Skills for a lifetime of achievement

In a fun and interactive program, youth will be introduced to and challenged by the 7 Habits (Covey). The students will set goals and learn new skills each week. This group is great for kids who are highly motivated or those with unlocked potential. The Certificate looks great on college/job applications.

Grades: 6-8   Day: W   Date: 12/3-12/10 New Date Time: 6-8 pm Weeks: 2 Fee: $15/$35
9-12 Day: W Date: 1/21-1/28 (2015) New Date      Time: 6-8 pm Weeks: 2 Fee: $15/$35

STUDY SKILLS AND TEST ANXIETY—Workshop for teens                                         

This one evening workshop will review study skills and issues related to test preparation. Students will learn: (1) How best to organize study time at home, school and before a test, (2) Factors that impact test preparation and performance, (3) Tools to overcome test anxiety. Presented by Huntington Learning Center and staff therapist.

Grades: 6-8/9-12 Day: Date: 9/30  Time: 6-7/7-8 pm Weeks: 1 Fee: None


MIND-BODY SKILLS GROUP— Practical skills to deal with life’s stressors   New

This experiential group gives participants tools for self-care to deal with such issues as stress, anxiety, depression, and grief. The group is set up to be supportive, but is not a replacement for therapy. Learn such skills as mindfulness, meditation, and understanding emotions.

COPING SKILLS GROUP— Learning to manage anxiety Cancelled

This research-supported group helps children learn effective ways to deal with anxiety and stress. Education, skills training and practice exercises teach children to: 1) Recognize emotional/physical response to anxiety, 2) Develop plans for coping and 3) Practice and evaluate the coping skills. Pre-interviews required—therapist will contact family.

Grades: 3-5/6-8 Day: Th Dates: 10/16-11/20 Time: 6-7/7-8 pm Weeks: 6 Fee:$15/$65 NR

FRIENDSHIP GROUP— Social skills for youth             

This popular group addresses the needs of children who wish to improve and develop their skills at making friends and communicating. In a fun and interactive environment, the children develop such skills as listening, conversing, compliments and introductions. This group is ideal for children who struggle with making friends or maintaining those relationships.

Grades: 3-5  Day: T   Dates: 10/21-12/16   Time: 6-7 pm  Weeks: 8 Fee: $15R/$85 NR

PRIDE YOUTH PROGRAM— For LGBT youth                                   Support Group

Professional staff and volunteers from North Shore Youth Health Services will be facilitating this open support group at Youth Services. This is a support group, not therapy. For info and meeting time— www.angles.org

Grades: 9-12 Day: T Time: 6:30-8 pm Weeks:Open ended Fee: None

 REGISTRATION REQUIRED. Need-based scholarships available for Township residents—847-244-1101 ext. *401. All Groups and Workshops are located at 100 S. Greenleaf St., Gurnee. No classes the week of  November 24-28.

ENRENERGY-SYNERGY— Practical skills to better manage attention and self-control

A group for kids who struggle with socialization skills, impulse control, concentration and distraction. This group combines active motion, behavioral techniques and relaxation skills to help kids regulate their energy and develop self-control. This group is designed for children diagnosed with ADHD or who display difficulty with attention. Parents encouraged to register for Parenting the ADHD Child.
