Workshop Description:Youth Program Quality Methods Workshops are a series of (9) distinct interactive trainings that are designed to provide solid approaches for successfully engaging the hearts and minds of young people, and helps to facilitate the skill building happening in program. Regardless of the content area of your After School Matters program, these workshops help to enhance program delivery. Below is the workshop title and its description:
Introduction to the Active-Participatory Approach
Active refers to engaging the whole person in the learning process, and supporting the development of cognitive, emotional, social and physical skills. Participatory refers to full involvement in all aspects of youth programming.
1. Participants will be able to identify the four guiding principles of the Active Participatory Approach.
2. Participants will be to recognize best practice behavior.
3. Participants will be able to incorporate aspects of the Approach into their lesson planning.

After School Matters
After School Matters® is a non-profit organization that offers Chicago high school teens innovative out-of-school activities through science37®, sports37®, tech37®, words37® and the nationally recognized gallery37® programs.
We provide these programs through a network of public and private partnerships that include Chicago Public Schools, the Chicago Park District, the Chicago Public Library, and community organizations throughout the city. We have been recognized nationally for our innovative approach to coordinating city resources and delivering unique and diverse programs. Our hands-on, project-based programs expose teens to rewarding careers and help them develop marketable job skills.
