Youth Program Quality Methods Workshops are a series of (9) distinct interactive trainings that are designed to provide solid approaches for successfully engaging the hearts and minds of young people, and helps to facilitate the skill building happening in program. Regardless of the content area of your After School Matters program, these workshops help to enhance program delivery. Below is the workshop title and its description:

Building Community

The existing peer culture is one of the most powerful forces that shape a youth program. It can have a big impact on young lives. Instructors can positively affect this culture by putting expectations/routines into place and building community techniques to enable youth to get to know each other and treat each other well.

Learning Objectives:

1. Participants will explore ways they can build community with youth.
2. Participants will explore ways to provide youth with opportunities to develop a sense of belonging.
3. Participants will understand the difference between icebreakers, energizers, name games and bonding games.
4. Participants will understand how groups form.
