Discuss the Impact of Women’s Leadership

Connect with Diverse Peers | Learn from Women Leaders

Who: Aspiring leaders, female students grades 9-12

What:

Writing – Compete to win the Youth Leadership Forum Essay Contest – “The Leader in Me”

Listening – Discuss the impact of women’s leadership and giving back to others with Jasmine Guy, actor, dancer and director.

Talking – Engage in a group discussion with your diverse peers from other high schools

Learning – Enhance your academic portfolio with a Youth Leadership Forum certificate from the Women’s Foundation for a Greater Memphis.

Where: Memphis Cook Convention Center, 255 N. Main, Room 205

When: Thursday, April 24, 2014, 1:30  – 3:00 p.m.

Featured Speaker – Jasmine Guy, Actor/Dancer/Director

Actor/dancer/director Jasmine Guy has enjoyed a diverse career in television, theater and film. She began her professional career at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in New York City.

After years on Broadway and touring the globe, Jasmine landed the role of Whitley Gilbert on the Cosby Show spinoff A Different World. She won six consecutive NAACP Image Awards for her portrayal of the pretentious but funny southern belle. Her other television performances include: Melrose Place; NYPD Blue; Fresh Prince of Bel Air and Living Single. She also directed the world premiere of the opera I Dream, celebrating the life and journey of Martin Luther King, Jr. at Atlanta’s Alliance Theatre.

Jasmine’s most recent role, recurring as Grams on the popular series Vampire Diaries, can be seen on the CW Network. Her ongoing desire to blend balance and discipline with ambition and service continues to fuel her passion for the arts.

Jasmine is also the spokesperson for the I Am Not Yours! Campaign, a vehicle to assist organizations who are in the fight against child sex trafficking.
