Your Rights & the Nuts & Bolts
of California’s
Special Education Law

Presented by Attorney Christian M. Knox

What can you do to help your child get the education, mental health and educational support services he or she needs?  Many parents find out too late that they could have had those services paid for by their school district.  Our speaker will explain:

  • How to tell if your child is receiving Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE).
  • How and when to establish your child’ s eligibility for special education and/or residential program services.
  • How to petition your school district for services or residential placement for your child.
  • When, why and how to hire a special education lawyer.
  • What to expect if you hire a lawyer. ... costs, stages and the ups/downs of the legal process.
  • What post-secondary education, transition services and training are available and how to get them funded.

A Q&A session will follow the presentation.
Space is limited, so please register for this event.

Admission is free but donations will be accepted

Willows in the Wind

a non-profit parent support group for families with challangeing teens and emerging adults.

Willows is a peer-to-peer parent support group. We work together with industry educators and the community to help bring support and education to parents who have sent their teens to therapeutic boarding school programs. Willows provides safe and effective support meetings for the families while their teens are in residential care. We also promote ongoing education and awareness to prepare for the process of transition and aftercare once their teens graduate and return to their home and community. Meetings are held monthly in Los Altos, California.

Willows In The Wind is a non-profit charity organization and is supported by donations.  Parents meet monthly to discuss topics such as establishing the path home, core values, family agreements, the art of active listening, addictive behavior, relapse, parenting your graduate, and knowing when to let go. Guest speakers provide professional guidance to both parents and graduates.
