Welcome to the 2014 Young Writers' Workshop!
This 19th annual community event for Scarsdale third to fifth graders will take place from 9:00am to noon on Saturday, March 22 at Scarsdale Middle School.
We hope to inspire your children with the opportunity to experience “real life” writing activities, and help them appreciate the many ways they can be writers too.
The morning will begin with a keynote address by C. Alexander London. In addition to being the author of the Accidental Adventures and the Dog Tags series of children’s books, London is an accomplished skeet-shooter, a master SCUBA diver, and a fully licensed librarian. He has watched television in 23 countries, and survived an erupting volcano, a hurricane, four civil wars, and a mysterious bite on his little toe in the jungles of Thailand. Currently, he lives in Brooklyn, NY, where he writes books for children and teens. A sought-after speaker at schools, London will teach two interactive “master workshops” following his keynote address.
Learn about all our workshops in our Workshop Guide. Choose from 34 inspiring workshops taught by top creative professionals from the New York area.
We’re also very pleased to partner with two local cultural organizations – Writopia Lab, a NYC-based creative writing program for kids and teens, with a new location in Hartsdale NY, and the Jacob Burns Film Center, a nonprofit cultural arts center in Pleasantville, NY dedicated to presenting the best of independent, documentary, and world cinema; promoting 21st century literacy; and, making film a vibrant part of the community.
Please select five workshops, in order of preference, from the Workshop Guide. Your child will be placed in two of the five courses, but you must still make five selections. Please note that registration will run from January 22 through February 14. Registration after February 14 will be charged a $10 late fee and are subject to workshop availability. Registrations will not be accepted after February 26. All fees are nonrefundable.
You’ll be amazed at how much fun and learning this program packs into your child’s morning!
