Event Details

Explore the solar system while getting to know a symphonic masterpiece in detail: Gustav Holst’s famous orchestral suite The Planets.

Written between 1914 and 1916, each movement of The Planets describes the mythological character for which the heavenly bodies were named. Join us as we delve into this out-of-this-world work! Students will also learn basic scientific information about each planet and about how their names were chosen by early astronomers. Click here for additional program information.

The San Antonio Symphony’s Young People’s Concerts (YPCs) have introduced youth to live orchestral music since 1943. Simply put, YPCs are a low cost, highly-educational field-trip opportunity for your students. Programs are designed to meet select Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) objectives in fine arts and a rotating core subject area. Geared towards third, fourth, and fifth grade students, YPCs engage students with participatory programs of music and lecture.  Click here for more about Young People's Concerts.
