"Yes, We CAN: Behind the Scenes at Dare to Care Food Bank"
Wednesday, December 11, 2013 from 8:30 AM to 10:00 AM (EST)
San Francisco, California
London, United Kingdom
It is estimated that the seven food banks in Kentucky distribute close to 40 million pounds of food and grocery products per year to agencies around our state. Food banks are a vital resource to hunger relief organizations and many Kentucky families, and they are an important link between the food industry and needy populations. How do food banks receive surplus and donated food and manage its distribution? What role do food banks play in hunger relief and awareness? How do food banks work to maximize resources at a time of ever increasing needs?
Join Dare to Care of Louisville for a special December IF University class to highlight the operations of an active food bank in Kentucky. Many of us recognize the important work that Dare to Care provides, but have never seen its operations up close or have a full understanding of how a food bank works. This is a behind-the-scenes experience of Dare to Care’s facilities in order to see all the working parts of a food bank and understand how Dare to Care staff are working actively and creatively to solve some of the most pressing problems in our community.
FACILITATOR: Stanley Siegwald is Director of Policy and Planning for Dare to Care and will lead this tour along with other staff members.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Participants will tour the Dare to Care Food Bank Warehouse, followed by a question and answer session. Admission to the class is free; participants are asked to bring 10 items of non-perishable food to support Dare to Care. For more about Dare to Care, click here.
