THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED
9:30 - 10:30am
The Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library is working to build collections
related to the LGBTQ experience and the history of sexuality.
Yale has had a tradition of acquiring the papers of gay and lesbian writers,
dating from the papers of Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas
through the literary manuscripts of Edmund White.
Recent focuses have been added to document pre- and post-Stonewall magazines
(with the acquisition of over 3,400 issues from the Knud Rame collection),
queer zines from the late 20th century, documentation of transgender issues,
and the growth of sexology in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
On view will be selections from the Beinecke's collection,
including archives, books, magazines, and photographs,
with a special emphasis on how Yale students are using these materials
for class assignments.

The Beinecke Library is dedicated to serving its readers and preserving its collections.
We operate as a secure facility, so there are a few standard procedures for visitors.
Visitors are asked to leave any coats, backpacks
and bags upstairs in our coat and locker area.
Secure lockers (with keys) are provided free of charge.
The curator will meet the group at 9:30 and accompany them to the Beinecke's classroom
to lead a tour of selections from the collections.
11 AM - 1 PM
Professor Jonathan Weinberg will lead a visit to the Print and Drawing Study
of Gay Yale Alumni at the Yale University Art Gallery to look at the
wonderful drawings and prints that involve a queer identity,
featuring works by Paul Cadums and Charles Demuth.
Lunch Included 1:15-2:15pm
2:30-4pm
Yale University Library's Manuscripts & Archives will present an LGBT Collection

with an interactive exhibit.
