BIO:Wyoma is a dance performance artist and teacher.  She is creator of the African healing dance and offers classes, workshops, and trainings in this holistic integrated model of movement and healing.  She is a consultant and advisor in the arts and has traveled and taught extensively in East, West, and South Africa.  For over 35 years, Wyoma has offered  a huge creative canvas to explore the human and divine forces of nature through traditional African, Caribbean, and Brazilian dance.  Her mission has been the restoration, preservation, and maintenance of these rich African traditions.  Wyoma is a member of Sini Sanuman to help abolish fgm.

Wyoma brings extensive experience and inspiring spirit to her collaborative efforts and solo performances.  She has performed as a solo and group artist since 1977.  She has also directed Damballa, a dynamic troupe of dancers and musicians based in Boulder, Colorado.  She's a co-founder of Ngoma Drum and Dance in Boston.  Her current performances include solo and group work in dances of the African diaspora and original creative works.

Wyoma trained and collaborated with many inspiring masters including Baba Olatunji, Yvonne Daniel, Rosemarie Guiraud and Les Guivoires, Kobla Ladzepko and Dzidzorgbe Lawluvi. Wyoma received a BA degree in dance from Naropa University in Boulder, CO. in 1982. This life's work is always renewing and evolving. Dance is honored as a transformative and spiritual endeavor and Wyoma has become a creative force for transformation for her students, audiences, and associate performers. Central to her approach is the recognition of our bodies own inherent wisdom. Wyoma created and danced the lead role in the African Healing Dance dvd, with her Damballa Dancers and Drummers. It was produced by Soundstrue.  The DVD is available through Soundstrue.com and Amazon.  Many schools and Colleges internationally use the African healing dance dvd as a teaching tool.

Wyoma is a master dancer and instructor of African traditional dance.  In this class, you will learn a beautiful culture while gaining strength, stamina, isolation articulation, and rhythmic precision.

"If you can walk you can dance, if you can talk you can sing" This wonderful Zimbabwean proverb expresses her unique style of teaching African, Caribbean, Brazilian, and Improvisational dance and movement. She shares dances learned from her travels in West, East, and Southern Africa, where the movements of nature, of animals, and everyday activities, summon energy into the body for connection and healing.  Wyoma supports the journey of whole body integration, providing a supportive, confident atmosphere.  With this practice who knows, you may start to move your entire body with Passion...
 your Joy Factor 1,000-fold!!!

African healing dance is much more than physical movement.  It is a direct way to celebrate life and create healing.  From the movements of nature, of animals and elements, and of everyday life, the people of Africa developed specific dances to summon the energy of the world around them into their bodies for connection and healing.  As creator and facilitator of the African healing dance, Wyoma creates a safe space and provides the vehicle for spiritual and emotional healing through the dances of Africa.
With the rhythms of live African drumming and recorded music, participants explore their own natural rhythms.  Wyoma will lead participants to a deeper awareness of self, nature, and the spirit of Africa through traditional dances, music, proverbs, and games of Africa and the diaspora.
In her workshop, Wyoma also integrates cycle of life movement, improvisation, yogic techniques, guided imagery, story-telling, and writing. By fostering a non-judgmental atmosphere, every participant is able to express themselves freely, relax in their bodies, sweat, and have fun! No dance background is required - This is the dance of life. Lectures, discussions, and dialogue are woven into the program. Participants are asked to bring a journal.

Ashe Yoga  This is a Classical Hatha Yoga style. Ashe in Yoruba means life force or divine energy within all life.   We come together to explore Yoga Postures in a perfect combination of flexibility, spirituality, breath and brain.  This practice is calming to the mind and it improves strength, flexibility, and balance. Participants will benefit from activities that - improve concentration, reduce stress, support good health and weight management habits, build self-esteem, and cultivate awareness.
