Event Details

The first WURD Speaks of 2014 has been scheduled! Please be our guest on February 26 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 P.M. at the Painted Bride for WURD Speaks: Black Beauty Politics, and a reception to celebrate the relaunch of Hair Story: Untangling the Roots of Black Hair in America by Ayana D. Byrd and Lori L. Tharps. Admission is free with registration. Please use the tool above to RSVP!

WURD Speaks: Black Beauty Politics will explore the fascinating, complicated and sometimes controversial story of how Black beauty has been portrayed since Africans arrived on American shores. Panelists include board-certified dermatologist and clinical instructor at the University of Pennsylvania Nada Elbuluk, MD, MSc., author Dr. Robin Smith, author Solomon Jones and authors Byrd and Tharps. Our panel will be moderated by Phenomenally U creator Lacey C. Clark!. Immediately following the panel will be a reception and book signing for Hair Story.

We are excited to announce that we will have interactive hair care demonstrations and vendors on site all evening and the Painted Bride's cafe will be open for sales of light bites and refreshments.
