"Mama Falls Through a Chair and Other Sources of Fiction"
The keynote address will be given by Clyde Edgerton. He is the author of ten novels, a book of advice, a memoir, and numerous short stories and essays. Edgerton has been a Guggenheim Fellow, and five of his novels have been New York Times Notable Books. He will be discussing writing and his new book Papadaddy's Book For New Fathers: Advice to Dads of All Ages.
What to expect for the address... Can you write fiction about a made up Mama when your real Mama falls through a chair and gets stuck? Some feel you can, some feel you can't. I'll have some advice about that in our workshop. And once you decide to write about somebody falling though a chair, how do you decide what point of view to use? I'll talk about that, too, plus other basics about fiction writing. I will give you a one-page handout that can lead to miracles in composing stories
Mr. Edgerton will deliver his keynote speech from 2:30-3:30 p.m. Refreshments and book sales follow. Individual writer workshops take place at Buttrick Hall beginning at 4:00 p.m.
