Murem Sharpe will lead a discussion and purposely includes three major phases of entrepreneurship. Participants range from “I have a concept”, to “I am underway”, to “I am planning an exit” all get immediate, useful results to “take away.”
#1 During the workshop: Draft a vision statement – for now, and a couple of phases into the future
- A vision statement is often called a picture of your company in the future, but it’s so much more than that. Your vision statement is your inspiration, the foundation for all your business planning and execution to follow. It can change over time as you, your customers, and market conditions change. But you need to write it down “now” and keep it current. What do you want your business to be at launch? This time next year? Three years from now? Five years from now?
#2 Homework: Draft a news release – test your vision statement
- If you are in pre-startup phase: Announce the opening of your business
- If you are in startup phase through early years: Announce an important accomplishment of your business
- If you are in exit phase [sale, merger]: announce how your prior business successes led to the exit event
