Event Details

You are invited to attend our 21st celebration of Women's History Month.

After brunch, you'll be treated to a portrayal of Victoria Woodhull by Jeanmarie Dwyer-Wrigley. Called "the most contraversial suffragist of them all" by Gloria Steinem, Victoria Woodhull was the first woman to become a Wall Street stockbroker, to publish a weekly newspaper, to address a Congressional committee and subsequently, in 1872 at the age of 34, the first woman to be a candidate for President of the United States.

Come to hear her reflect on all she, as a woman with a less than sterling background, had to overcome to accomplish so much. Applaud her courage as she recalls battling those who demonized her because of the social and political reforms she advocated and the exposes she published.

Sponsors include: Altrusa International Club of Elgin, Elgin Area AAUW, Elgin Community College, Elgin Junior Service Board, Gamma Xi, League of Women Voters of the Elgin Area, and YWCA Elgin.

Additional Information and registration available at the YWCA website.
