Just three weeks into her new role as CEO of United Way of Central Indiana, Ann Murtlow helped us to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of Women United in 2013. Now that she's crossed the year mark, we've invited her back to share her reflections on the journey so far and provide us with some insight as to what we can expect with the rollout of the "NEW U".
Most recently, she was an independent consultant providing advice on strategy, execution, growth and leadership. Previously, Ann was an AES Corporation executive and president & CEO at Indianapolis Power & Light Company (IPL) where she became one of the few female chief executives in the electric utility industry. During her nine-year tenure at IPL, she focused on providing value to company stakeholders through operating excellence in the areas of safety, environmental performance, reliability, customer service, financial performance, employee engagement and community leadership.
Involved in the community, Ann has co-chaired Central Indiana Corporate Partnership and served as vice chair of the Indianapolis Zoo and chair of the Women’s Fund of Central Indiana. Ann currently serves on the boards of Economic Club of Indiana, Indianapolis Zoo Founders Board and The Mind Trust.
Recognition for her work and service include: Electric Light & Power Magazine’s 2010 Large Utility CEO of the Year Award; Women in Hi Tech Leading Lights; 2012 Leadership Award; Barnes & Thornburg 2010 Woman of the Year in Hi Tech; Riverview Hospital Women of Impact Award 2008; IBJ’s Influential Women 2007; Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s 2007 Diamond Hope Award; and Girl’s Inc. 2007 Touchtone Award.
