The DePaul Women's Network invites DePaul faculty, staff and students to the 8th annual
Women of Spirit & Action Awards
With special guest speaker
Jackie Lomax, founder of Girls4Science
May 29, 2013
Lincoln Park Student Center, Room 120
This annual program encourages DePaul women (faculty, staff and students) to colleagues who have contributed to their growth and development. This event is an homage to St. Louise de Marillac for her tireless commitment to the service of others. In addition to faculty and staff,
We will honor the influence of St. Louise de Marillac and the DePaul WSA nominees with an award ceremony and a talk from keynote speaker Jackie Lomax, founder of Girls4Science (G4S). Lomax started G4S in 2009 after learning her daughter wanted to be a dentist and discovering that there were no resources available to help her daughter achieve her dreams. G4S is the only all-girls science program in Chicago for girls ages 10-18. G4S focuses on developing girls’ confidence and interpersonal skills in order to overcome barriers that prevent them from achieving both personal and professional goals.
About St. Louise de Marillac
St. Louise was a wife, mother, nurse, social worker, teacher and community organizer in 17th century France who collaborated with St. Vincent de Paul to serve the poor. She educated women to help serve those most in need and founded the Daughters of Charity, a community of religious women that still exists today. Louise acted from a deep place of faith in God and out of a sense of love and joy rather than obligation. Whether our endeavors are humble or grand, Louise de Marillac's spirit continues to inspire us to take our beliefs and put them into action.
