Women in Wine – the Ultimate Kitchen and Wine Experience!
Tuesday, October 12, 2010 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM (EDT)
Join Guild Director Cynthia Mar, and past Guild Director Rutha Astravas for our continuing Women in Wine Series. Women in Wine events are for the Guild’s female members and their girlfriends to share the enjoyment of wine and to learn from women working in the world of wine.
First the venue, the urban element, a modern and contemporary professional working kitchen, whose philosophy is to provide the ultimate culinary event studio to inspire a love of food and cooking. Paired with 2 women who will channel their love of cooking and food, with wine.
Chef Candice Butler, a native of Ottawa, is a graduate of the Culinary Management program at Algonguin College. Candice has honed her skills in some of Ottawa’ finest establishments - Echo Café and Wine Bar, Black Cat Wine Bar, and Delish Fine Foods and Catering. She has also opened Icing on the Cake, a specialty cake business specializing in wedding cakes. At the urban element, Candice has eagerly taken on the opportunity of combining her love of cooking with teaching, and enjoys building and fostering strong relationships with local farmers and producers. Candice will lead us through an interactive chef demonstration of 2 appetizers and a dessert.
Lauren Hayes is the Eastern Ontario Sales Representative for Cave Spring Cellars and The Vine (Robert Groh Agency). She is a graduate of the Sommelier program at Algonquin College and has a Level 3 Advanced Certificate in Wines and Spirits from the WSET. She has traveled to wine regions including Tuscany, California, Kelowna and is in Niagara every few weeks. Lauren will guide us through the tasting of the appetizers and dessert with selected wines.
As with all Women in Wine events, we also always have interactive discussion with our guest speakers to learn more about what they do in the world of wine and food. Everyone will receive the recipes for the appetizers and list of wine pairings at the end of the evening.
Space is limited to 30 women. Please reserve early to avoid disappointment.
Parking: Limited parking is available at 424 Parkdale Avenue on a first-come-first-serve basis (located at the rear and front of the building). Extra parking is available across the street of the building at the Canada Post Distribution Centre.
