Dearest Friends -
Please join San Francisco First Lady Anita Lee, District Attorney George Gascón, Fabiola Kramsky, Marsha Garces Williams, Susan Celia Swan, Janet Reilly and Bay Area Women’s Groups at a Fundraising Gathering in Solidarity with Filipina Women and Girls.
In the aftermath of Typhoon HAIYAN/YOLANDA women and girls have been displaced - let's help them put their lives together. Rebuild their homes, their schools, their hospitals, their lives. Families are now living in shelters as their homes have been destroyed and are on reclaimed land.
We need your help to get their jobs back as businesses have been severely damaged and we have to find a way for these families to have a source of income.
Our hearts go out to the Women of Candahug, the "Village of Widows" - the husbands, fathers and sons stayed behind while the women and children escaped to higher ground when Typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda swooped in at 200mph, surging the waves as high as 16 ft. All the men died trying to save their homes.
Your contribution and 100% of proceeds will support the long-term rebuilding efforts through the help of Feed the Hungry Philippines - their volunteers and staff are now on-the-ground doing relief work. Check out their good work at: http://feedthehungryphil.org/appeal-for-super-typhoon-yolanda-victims/
100% of proceeds will go to Feed the Hungry Philippines who are on-the-ground doing relief and rebuild efforts.
UPDATE FROM MARILY 1.20.14:
For those of you in the San Francisco Bay Area, I look forward to seeing you this Thursday! I'm back from my month-long trip to the Philippines and Tacloban City - an emotional visit but inspiring. I will share my update on the projects we've embarked to help to in the Rebuild efforts after Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan).
- Micro Enterprise Revolving Loan Fund in collaboration with PBSP and CARD-MRI
- Solar Project - a job skills technical training for women
- Build a Women's Training Center (with a day care facility)
- Women Survival Kit - please bring a used cell phone (any phone you no longer use) or mail to FWN, POB 192143, SF 94119
I met with the Women in the "United Nations Tent City" and kick started an economic livelihood program. For $200, you can seed a small business for one of the women still living in the UN Tent City. Please do not forget your Filipina Sisters as 2014 rolls in.
