Krzysztof Kieślowski is most often celebrated for his feature films, such as the “Three Colors” trilogy, which were made in the twilight of his life. But before he made his first feature, he was a consummate director of documentary shorts. A master of concise, effective storytelling, he explored a variety of subjects in strikingly original form. This trio of films focuses on a variety of female subjects: factory workers, ballet dancers and a very young pregnant wife trying to make a living in mid-1970s Poland.
