Event Details

If you love nothing more than good cinema and good wine, then our newly launched Wine & Film Series was made to order for you.  We're bringing you the best in contemporary world cinema and pairing it with some of the world's finest wine for an unforgettable evening.

This month, we bring you the highly anticipated documentary,Red Obsession which chronicles the struggle of the great chateaux of Bordeaux as they try to accommodate the voracious appetite for their rare, expensive wines, which have become a powerful status symbol in booming China.  The evening will start with a led tasting of four different wines from the Bourdeux region of France.

THE MOVIE: Red Obsession

Narrated by Russell Crowe, Red Obsession is a film about power, passion and the fine wine game. The Bordeaux region in France has survived revolutions and wars over the course of its history and has still managed to produce the most desirable wine in the world. However, with rising prices due to environmental and cultural circumstances, the traditional markets have not been as profitable as they had been previously.

Enter China. Consumed with owning luxury items that secure their elite status, the Chinese nouveau riche have become wine connoisseurs, paying prices as absurd as $80,000 for one bottle of a special vintage. With winemakers in the Bordeaux region struggling to keep up with demand, this absorbing documentary explores the effects of the Chinese's newfound passion for wine on the renowned French vineyards. The film takes us on an extraordinary journey from Bordeaux to Beijing, from the passion and art of the vineyard to the notorious counterfeit wine markets of the Far East and into the homes of billionaire collectors.

RED OBSESSION explores the unlikely love affair between the traditional West and the seductive but unpredictable East. The demand is unprecedented, but the product is finite and this new client wants it all. Will the China market be the bubble that never bursts or the biggest threat yet to Bordeaux's centuries old reputation?
