Chris Mayer, program manager for the Fulton Center for Sustainable Living at Wilson College, is pleased to announce they are sponsoring a community Healthy Eating Adventure. This 28-day heart-healthy, plant-strong diet is based on Austin firefighter Rip Esselstyn's best-selling book, The Engine 2 Diet. His book follows the advice of his father, Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn who wrote Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease.
Dr. Liz George will kick off The Healthy Eating Adventure with a talk on Wednesday, June 26th at 6:00 p.m. in Brooks Auditorium on Wilson College Campus. Dr. George has led local community Healthy Eating Adventures in Mercersburg, Penn National Golf Course community, Wilson College, and Shippensburg University. The event is free and open to the public.
Immediately following the lecture a dinner will be offered in Laird Hall. The cost is only $12.00 and RSVP's are required.
Each participant is assigned a coach and the Healthy Eating Adventure begins with a "how to" training session on Wednesday July 3rd. This is followed by a series of 4 weekly potluck dinners on Wednesday evenings from July 10th to July 31st in Jensen Dining Hall at Wilson College. The fabulous flavors and variety of the potluck meals provide community support and the opportunity to learn about how others are shopping, cooking and preparing.
Healthy Eating Adventure participants have benefited by improved blood pressure and glucose control, lower cholesterol, and weight loss.
