William Jessup University Presents: Friends and Neighbors Inspired - Spring Conference
Thursday, April 11, 2013 from 9:00 AM to 1:30 PM (PDT)
William Jessup University will host their spring Friends and Neighbors Conference on Thursday, April 11 beginning at 9 a.m. in the Academic Warehouse. This year, the conference will discuss Faith and Science: Partners or Opponents in Understanding Our World?
Jessup’s Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dr. Dennis Jameson will introduce the WJU Academic Department and lead a panel discussion presented by Dr. Merilyn Copland, Professor of Bible and History at the growing university. Copland will discuss her research on how the Bible provides a foundation for scientific discoveries, based as they are on the ideas that history is going somewhere and that a better tomorrow is possible.
Dr. Albert Yee, Professor of Mathematics and Science combined with Dr. Ted Tollner, Chair of Jessup’s new Biology Department will present There is no inherent conflict between faith and science. Dr. Yee has great enthusiasm for math and physics and will explain his special interest in astrophysics which adds to his faith. Dr. Tollner will share how his faith has informed his passion for research in cell/molecular biology.
These presentations will demonstrate that, contrary to popular belief, understanding science can strengthen one's faith instead of diminish it.
In addition, the University Choir will perform. The Conference will begin at 9:30 a.m. with registration at 9:00 a.m. The conference will conclude at approximately 1:30 p.m. Cost for the conference is $15.00 including lunch. Registration is recommended by Monday, March 25.
