Event Details

Aerie's 72 hour Wilderness First Responder (WFR) course is designed for outdoor professionals and outdoor enthusiasts, preparing them to care for injuries and illness in remote, challenging environments. The course is fast-paced, challenging, hands-on and fun.  Aerie's nationally recognized Wilderness First Responder (WFR) courses address injury and illness prevention, patient assessment, long-term patient management, improvised splint and litter construction, and environmental emergencies while stressing the thought processes unique to caring for patients in remote environments. Aerie instructors are professional care providers with many years of outdoor leadership experience. Students also receive an American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR certification.

This class will begin at 8:00am on Sunday and wrap up at 5:00pm the following Sunday.  Camping in the Longmire Campground is available for course participants, as are breakfast, lunch and dinner for the week.  Cost for this package is $500 for our volunteers, thanks in part to a generous grant from Boeing.  Our instructors will be from Aerie Backcountry Medicine (aeriemed.com).  This training has no prerequisites but is not appropriate for minors.  Space is limited. We will provide course confirmation and payment instructions to registered participants when this course fills to minimum capacity.

Mount Rainier National Park

Every year, hundreds of individuals contribute their enthusiasm and skills to help the National Park Service preserve and protect its natural and cultural resources, and to serve and educate its visitors. Volunteers help in almost every area of the park, from maintaining trails to leading guided hikes. The time commitment for volunteer work varies from one-day projects to full-time work extending over months or years. Both individuals and organized groups are welcome to volunteer, and opportunities are available both for highly skilled professionals and for families with little or no experience in land management. Consider joining our team! Your contribution of time and energy will help us to protect the magnificent natural and cultural areas entrusted to us, and you’ll go home with a sense of pride at having participated in something worthwhile. Mount Rainier is your national park!
