How to Submit Your Humor Writing
Humor writing is a great way for a comic to gain exposure and work on writing chops. But getting websites and magazines to publish your funny stuff can be like trying to break into a new club when no one will tell you where the club entrance is. This one-hour workshop will provide a broad overview of different types of humor writing for publication (including humor essays, news satire, cartoons and McSweeney's-type pieces) as well as a Q&A session to help clear up some of the many misconceptions about freelance writing. You will learn to distinguish tone and content among various publications/outlets in the media landscape, to properly pitch to editors, and hopefully pick up some tidbits of wisdom gleaned from the road (or the chair).
Steve Macone's humor writing has appeared in the New York Times, The Onion, New Yorker, Boston Globe, American Scholar and Salon.com and has been highlighted in the Best American Essays series.
