Event Details

The goal of the Cooking Matters Conference is to engage participants in topics related to hunger, obesity and food insecurity. Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro will be the event’s keynote speaker. DeLauro is one of Congress’s outspoken anti-hunger advocates. At this conference, we will also recognize and award the dozens of chefs, restaurant owners, nutritionists, and others who have volunteered their time and amazing skills to work with our families who participate in Cooking Matters Connecticut. The event will also feature a screening of The Apple Pushers. The Apple Pushers follows immigrant street vendors who are rolling fresh fruits and vegetables into poorer neighborhoods of New York where finding a fresh red ripe apple can be a serious challenge. The first 100 people to register will receive a ticket to Big Food: Health, Culture and the Evolution of Eating, which is currently on exhibit at the Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History. The first 100 people to register will also receive CitySeed’s community cookbook, “New Haven Cooks”. We truly hope you can join us on Saturday, June 9, 2012.
