Whole Foods Market - Nature Preserve Clean Up (Kids' Day of Service)
Wednesday, September 4, 2013 from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM (EDT)
Calling all kids and families to join us for a fun fall volunteer project at the Wapihani Nature Preserve, a Central Indiana Land Trust (CILTI) site. This will be a family-friendly, 2-hour project with tasks for everyone ages 2 and up. At the end of the project, join us in modeling the fun of "eating a rainbow" build-your-own salad-bar and other light refreshments in honor of the Whole Kids Foundation.
This is an opportunity for customers, team members, and kids to partner together in service to our community. We're excited to roll up our sleeves to prune/remove invasive trees/bushes and help prepare the area for new native plants. Below, please find a volunteer job description and a list of items that may be helpful to bring on the day of the project. It's our goal to make your experience fun, uplifting, and kid-friendly. The best part is being all together!
Please join us for a fun-filled day of service and inspiration as we celebrate healthy communities and healthy eating together!
Thank you and we'll look forward to seeing you soon!

Why are we focusing on removing non-native plants?
Invasive plants and trees are choking out native species in central Indiana. By removing invasive trees like Bradford Pears and other invasive plants from the Wapahani Nature Preserve volunteers will be allowing native plants to grow and promote a healthier ecosystem in central Indiana. In most natural areas, like the Wapahani Nature Preserve, natives cannot compete with these fast spreading invasive plants, which run rampant through our woods, fields, and waterways, further threatening biodiversity. By identifying and removing invasive plants where we live and play we can work to stop their spread and promote a diverse home for native plants and wildlife.
What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
Volunteer parking is available at the back parking lot of Riverside Middle School – right by the tennis courts. The address for the school is 10910 Eller Road Fishers, IN 46038. Enter the school from the last and southern most entrance and follow the drive back behind the school by the tennis courts and park in that lot. Land Trust staff will be waiting for you there. We encourage carpooling and biking in!
Where can I contact the organizer with any questions?
Please email firstname.lastname@example.org, or call 317-569-1517.
Can I update my registration information?
Absolutely! Just log back into your registration and make any changes needed.
Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
You can if you like, but we'll also have a check in sheet printed so you can save a tree and not bring your printed ticket if you prefer!
What happens if the weather is bad?
If there is simply light drizzle, we will be there! In the case of lightning or other forms of severe weather, for safety reasons we must cancel the event.
What happens if the event is cancelled?
If we cancel the event, we will send out an email to all registered participants the day before (on September 3). If cancellation is necessary due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances, we are working to schedule a 'back-up' date in late October.
