Event Details

Redwood City, CA –Where I Live is a new and unique art photography exhibit featuring the work of three diverse photographers; Robin Apple, Lynne Auld, and Tim Scott. This exhibit opens Wednesday, July 2nd at The Main Gallery, and runs through Sunday, August 3rd.
The Main Gallery, located at 1018 Main Street in Redwood City, will be hosting a free opening reception with the artists on Saturday, July 5th, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Here is some background about the artists and a small descriptive sampling of what you will find at The Main Gallery’s Where I Live exhibit:

Photographer Robin Apple also works as a clinical psychologist. She is intrigued by the combination of high color and values experimentation, expression, and movement. In both of Apple’s careers, she responds to complexity more than simplicity; she views people and experiences as contradictory, multidimensional, and nuanced, as she typically believes in a multitude of realities rather than just one right way. For Apple’s Where I Live images on exhibit, she uses an iPhone 5 camera (instead of the more standard perceived professional quality DHSL camera) to capture and then combine unrelated experiences from different times and places around the world in a free and spontaneous way. Apple likes to combine elements of truth with her psychology roots; her images tend to be figurative.

The focus for photographer Lynn Auld’s work for the Where I Live show is an exploration of Northern California, her new home. While Auld has lived in many places; Liberia, Mauritius, Ecuador, Australia, Solomon Islands, and most recently Seattle, Washington, she has found that few regions have as many varied landscapes within so few hours’ drive as the Bay Area, and Auld describes the excitement of discovering the accessible panoramic variety as “exhilarating.” Auld takes special delight in exploring California landscape, with its “Kodachrome moments of blue skies and white clouds” as well as the vagaries of weather and transitional times of day. Auld details the “opalescent light of dawn and dusk, the mysteries of fog, and the shifting nuances of light and shadow” as adding other dimensions and subtlety to the portrayal of moments caught in a time and a place.

As an avid traveler, photographer Tim Scott ventures to countries and destinations that few have gone, capturing the surroundings and details of the people who live there. In Scott’s photography, he strives to document the human experience; the dignity, the beauty, and the difficulties. While photographing, Scott never directs, but rather waits for a wordless story. In Where I Live, Scott exhibits works from around the world; from Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, to Zanzibar and Sudan, and even into the jungle of northern Peru. Scott’s opportunities to explore the world began as a kid, when he was raised in Europe, Asia and the United States. As an adult, he again lived abroad and became involved with international election observation. These experiences, whereby he visits regions for prolonged periods of time, brought out his interest in documenting the everyday events, traditions, and struggles of people. Scott believes that “whether living in hot or cold weather, mountains or plains, under democratic systems or autocratic, traditional or influenced by the global culture; people merge and diverge in the most interesting ways.”
